Apple is about to require every app to ask permission before tracking users across other apps and websites. Most people will say no, and Facebook targeting is what breaks. Industry estimates of opt in rates range from very low to embarrassing, and either way a large share of iPhone users are about to become invisible to the Facebook pixel. If a meaningful part of your revenue comes from iPhone owners, and in Egypt’s higher income segments it does, this will show up in your reporting within weeks.

What actually changes for Facebook targeting

Three things. Audience sizes shrink, because retargeting pools can only include people you can still identify. Conversion reporting becomes partly modeled and delayed, so the numbers in the dashboard stop being a count and start being an estimate. And the optimization algorithms get less signal, which means they get worse at finding buyers, which quietly raises your cost per acquisition even if nothing else changes.

The preparation list, in priority order

Verify your domain in Business Manager and configure the eight conversion events you care most about, because the new limit is eight and the platform will pick badly if you do not choose. Move your most important event to the top of that priority list. Expect attribution windows to shorten, so update the internal benchmarks that your team judges campaigns against before they panic at a number that is measuring something different.

Then build the things nobody can take away. Start collecting email addresses and phone numbers with a real value exchange, not a popup. Get your customer list into the platform and refresh it regularly. Set up a proper server side connection to send conversion events from your own systems rather than relying entirely on a browser pixel.

The strategic read

Precision targeting has been getting cheaper for a decade, and that trend is now reversing. When the machine knows less, the creative has to work harder, and broad audiences with strong creative start beating narrow audiences with weak creative. Brands with their own customer data and a distinctive voice are about to have a structural advantage over brands that rented both from a platform.

We are rebuilding measurement and audience foundations for every account we run before the update lands rather than after. If you want a read on your own exposure, that is exactly what the free audit covers.
