The most common paid media setup we find at small Egyptian businesses is a person tapping the blue Boost Post button whenever a post does well, with no pixel, no objective and no idea what any of it produced. That is not advertising. It is a donation with a nice interface. The good news is that the fix takes one afternoon.

Install the pixel before you spend another pound

The Facebook pixel is a small piece of code on your website that tells the platform what happened after the click. Without it you cannot optimize for purchases, you cannot retarget the people who nearly bought, and you cannot report on anything except clicks. Install it, then define the events that matter: view content, add to cart, initiate checkout, purchase, or for service businesses, a completed inquiry form.

Every week you run ads without it is a week of data you can never get back, and the retargeting audience you would have been building is the cheapest source of sales you will ever have.

Facebook ads for Egyptian SMEs: three campaigns, not thirty

Campaign one is cold traffic with a broad audience and a clear objective, and its job is to find new people. Campaign two is retargeting, aimed at website visitors and people who engaged with your page or watched a video, and it does most of the converting. Campaign three is your existing customer list uploaded as a custom audience, for repeat purchases and for building a lookalike audience once the list is large enough.

Resist the urge to build twenty small ad sets. Splitting a small budget across many audiences means none of them ever gets enough data to leave the learning phase, which is the single most common reason small accounts underperform.

Creative and budget discipline

Run at least three creatives per ad set and let the platform pick. Write in the language your customer thinks in, which in most Egyptian audiences means Arabic. Show the product being used by a person rather than sitting on a white background. And set a budget you can sustain for at least three weeks, because a campaign switched off after four days has taught you nothing.

Get those foundations right and the platform does most of the work. Get them wrong and no amount of budget rescues it. If you would rather have someone build the structure properly the first time, that is what our paid media advertising and planning service exists for.
