Every client meeting this year has included some version of the same question: if we can only resource one, Reels or TikTok? The honest answer depends on what you sell and who buys it, but after a year of running both for the same brands we have enough data to stop guessing.

Reels versus TikTok: the numbers side by side

Across our accounts, the same video posted natively to both platforms reaches more non followers on TikTok and converts better on Reels. TikTok is the better discovery machine, routinely delivering five to ten times the reach for an account with a small following. Instagram is the better closing environment, because the profile, the shop, the link and the direct message thread all live in one place the buyer already trusts.

Audience skew matters more than either number. For fashion, beauty, food and anything aimed under 30, TikTok wins on volume and cost per view. For B2B, professional services, furniture, real estate and higher ticket purchases, Instagram still holds the audience with the budget.

The mistake almost everyone makes

Posting the TikTok export to Reels with the watermark still on it. Instagram has said openly that it suppresses recycled watermarked content, and our own tests back that up. Removing the watermark and re editing the first two seconds for a slightly slower opening lifted Reels reach by a wide margin on every account we tested. It costs ten minutes per video.

What we recommend for most Egyptian brands right now

Shoot once, edit twice, post to both, but resource them differently. TikTok gets the experimental volume, the trend participation and the loose, fast content. Instagram gets the polished version, the product tagging, the story amplification and the community management. Judge TikTok on reach and follower growth, judge Reels on profile visits, saves and revenue.

If your team can genuinely only do one well, choose the platform where your buyer already is, not the one with the better growth story. A great account on one platform beats two neglected ones, and we would rather build the machine properly than spread it thin. That trade off is the first conversation in every social media strategy and management engagement we start.
