How we built Souq Masri a marketplace around one message
In Egyptian e-commerce the delivery cost decides the cart. Souq Masri leads with flat shipping to Cairo and Alexandria, and the whole storefront is built to keep that promise visible.
Scope of work
Exactly what was designed, developed and delivered on this build.
The Brief
Souq Masri launched in 2022 as a multi category Arabic marketplace. It entered a market where shoppers abandon carts over a delivery fee they only discover at the last step.
The company had one strong commercial answer to that. Flat shipping to Cairo and Alexandria, stated up front, before anyone adds anything to a basket.
The brief was to make that message the organizing idea of the whole experience. Not a banner people scroll past, and not a line in a footer nobody reads.
Behind it sits the usual marketplace problem. Many categories, a lot of catalog, and a browse that has to stay comprehensible when the range spans electronics and household goods on the same homepage.
Those two goals pull in opposite directions. A single clear promise wants simplicity, and a broad catalog wants structure.
Trust is the other half. A new marketplace has no reputation, so the promise on the page is the only reason to try it once.
The Build
We built the delivery promise into the furniture rather than the marketing. It appears in the header, where it stays visible during browsing.
It appears again in the category templates, and again at the cart and checkout steps where doubt actually arrives. A shopper never has to wonder what the total becomes.
The promotional banner system works as a managed component. The merchandising team can push a campaign, a category push or a seasonal offer without a developer and without breaking the layout underneath.
The catalog structure carries the rest. Categories nest properly, listings share one template regardless of what they sell, and the path from homepage to category to product stays two clicks deep as the range grows.
All of it came from our website and app development team, with the storefront look set by graphic design and brand identity.
The Details
At checkout, almost always. So we built it short and honest.
Cart totals show delivery clearly instead of revealing it at the end. The steps collapse to the minimum a real order needs. The whole flow is laid out in Arabic with the field order and validation messages a local shopper expects.
The interface is right to left throughout. Number formatting, currency and address fields are part of the localization rather than a Western default left in place.
Multi category storefronts also fail on weight. Listing pages had to stay quick with a heavy catalog, so images are sized for the grid they appear in.
Category structure carried a hidden requirement too. Electronics and household goods need different card information, so the template had to flex without becoming two templates.
The templates hold up from a wide desktop grid down to the single column phone browse where most of the traffic starts. That is where an Egyptian marketplace either works or does not. More builds like it sit on our success stories page.
What this record covers
This page documents the build: what was designed, developed and shipped. We publish performance figures only for engagements where we hold the measurement, which is why this entry reports scope instead of statistics. The programs we can measure are on the success stories page.
