The classic funnel assumed a person moved between separate places: an ad, then a website, then an email, then a checkout. That model is now wrong for a large share of buyers who discover, research, decide and often buy without ever leaving one app. If your media plan still treats video as an awareness line item, you are underusing the only channel that can carry the whole journey.

Video first funnels: three jobs, three cuts, one shoot

We now brief every video shoot to produce three distinct cuts. The discovery cut is eight to fifteen seconds, one idea, hook in the first second, and it is judged only on completion rate and shares. The consideration cut runs 30 to 60 seconds and does the job a landing page used to do: the objection, the proof, the specifics. The conversion cut is a 15 second offer with a hard call to action, and it is shown only to people who watched the first two.

Shooting all three in one session costs perhaps 20 percent more than shooting one, and gives you a sequenced funnel instead of a single asset. On a home goods client this year that structure cut cost per purchase by 34 percent against a single video campaign running the same budget.

Sequencing beats targeting

With targeting signal getting weaker every quarter, view based audiences became our most reliable segmentation. Someone who watched 75 percent of a 45 second product video has told you more about their intent than any interest category ever did, and that signal lives inside the platform where privacy changes cannot reach it.

The practical build: a broad discovery campaign, then a consideration campaign aimed at 50 percent viewers of the discovery cut, then a conversion campaign aimed at 75 percent viewers of the consideration cut plus site visitors. Three campaigns, one creative shoot, a funnel that works without third party data.

What kills it

Repurposing a television advert. Cropping a horizontal edit to vertical. Starting with a logo. Music without captions, when most feeds start muted. And the biggest one: shipping four videos and calling it a test. You need twelve to learn anything, because the variance between individual clips is far wider than the variance between strategies.

Volume plus a clear sequence beats one beautiful film every time. That is how our social media strategy and management team plans production calendars now: batch the shoot, cut for the stage, let completion rate pick the winners.
